During Blood Donor Month, the local branch of the SANBS ran a weeklong campaign on air to encourage listeners to donate blood during these especially trying times. Blood donations during the winter months are always low and with the effects of the pandemic added to this, the client was worried about very low blood stocks in June.
However, the campaign that was run during the Breakfast Show on Algoa FM was a huge success.
The client had the following feedback:
“Thank you for the brilliant idea! I do believe we should repeat this winning recipe next year for Blood Donor Month. Our donor centres were exceptionally busy during that week and I can only attribute that to the increased awareness created on Algoa FM.”
An additional campaign was run for SANBS during July called the SANBS Bloodline Week. The campaign combined on air calls to donate with social media and digital presence. During the campaign week, 1 897 units of blood were collected – surpassing the SANBS’s target for the week by 397 units.
